Undergraduate Students
My research sometimes provides opportunities for students, and I have supervised a number of projects for students from Cambridge and abroad, see Past members, below.
Cambridge students: I regularly supervise part III projects. Some current topics are advertised on the departmental site, but feel free to contact me to discuss other opportunities.
Graduate Students
Strong candidates: If you are interested in doing a PhD in my group,
please contact me explaining your background (including a CV) and
interests in order to discuss possible projects.
All graduate students need to follow the application procedure
outlined in the Graduate
Admissions web page of the Physics Department, and indicate your
preference of supervisor on the form. Depending on your situation,
different funding options may be available. Please consult the
departmental graduate website for further
information about procedures and deadlines. In particular, note that
there is an early deadline for university scholarships for overseas (i.e., non
UK/EU) students, typically in early december.
College scholarships may have varying deadlines. Please consult the departmental
funding information, and the Cambridge trust
funding database for further details.
Postdoctoral Positions
If you are looking for
postdoc opportunities, and are interested in joining my group, you may be
able to do so with a personal fellowship. Please consult the following list of fellowships in Cambridge as well as
in the UK in general. These fellowships are rather competitive and often require the explicit support of a host institution.

the Cambridge College Junior Research Fellowships (JRF). Different
Colleges advertise them at different times, generally between August and
February. Adverts can be found on the Cambridge College Job listing, or you can use a web search engine). Conditions of employment vary from college to college, so please consult the individual listing carefully to ensure that physicists can apply. Please note that the advertised stipends are typically in addition to free accommodation and meals
In particular, the Joint Application Scheme for Junior Research Fellowships includes positions at Trinity Hall, my college.

the EPSRC
fellowships can be held as 3 year postdoctoral grants, or 5 year
early career positions (see below)

the ERC Marie Curie Actions provide up to two years of support when moving to the UK; these fellowships are available at any career stage

the Research Fellowships in Science and Engineering from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851

the Leverhume Trust
Early Career Fellowship (3 years) — if you think about
applying, be aware that you will also need to acquire matching
funding, which may be offered through the Newton Trust via a separate
